What does the Bible say about faith, hope, and love? 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV) says, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." In context Paul lists faith, hope, and love as three primary gifts all Christians will always have. 1 Corinthians 12 to 14 are three chapters focusing mainly on spiritual gifts.
In Scripture we learn that God is love ( 1 John 4:8) and that he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us — a supreme act of sacrificial love. Love is what motivated God the Father to send His only Son to die for us. Thus, love is the virtue upon which all Christian faith and hope now stand.
Faith, Hope, and Love - These Three Remain. Love is greater than faith and hope because it endures forever. And love is greater because without it, acts of faith and hope are empty and fruitless. How many more facets may there be to this diamond of a Scripture? One last point: the word translated in the NIV as "remain" is the same word used
Faith and hope are distinct yet related. That there is a difference between faith and hope is evident in 1 Corinthians 13:13, "Now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." Two of the three greatest gifts are faith and hope, listed separately.
